Display or hide field codes in Word 2007/2010/2013. Step 1: in Word 2007, click Office icon, and then click Word Options; in Word 2010/2013, click File tab, and then click Options. Step 2: click Advanced, and then check Show field codes instead of their values to display field code in document.
I am working on a PC Office Word document in Office 2016 - Word mac. A text box was locked in the original doc. To unlock the text box I selected Protect - Password Protect - unlocked the security with password. Now I can edit and add text in the ex-locked text box.

If you want to convert all field codes to text, select your whole document with CTRL+A, then press CTRL+SHIFT+F9

  This may work for field codes within the body of a document, but will not work on field codes within a table (e.g., a table of cross references to various locations within a document).
